Why are our studies different?

There are several features of the Studies which make them different from other ones in the country but at the same time make them similar to the western models of postgraduate studies.

  1. The studies strongly emphasise development of a new way of thinking and communicating - a new culture, we may say. Moral and ethical qualities of our students are emphasised as well.

  2. The studies are organised under the guidance of the Dean of the Studies with whom the students have regular or occasional meetings and conversations. Students are obliged to accept all proposals and suggestions regarding their personal and professional progress.

  3. The Studies are organised at the scholarly principle: lectures, demonstrations, seminars and other activities are obligatory.

  4. Schooling is organised according to the generation principle: when one-generation finishes the studies, another enrols. The exams are also organised according to the same principle: the exam in one particular subject is organised for all the students on the same day. Students can take an exam in another term only with the Dean’s consent.

  5. The Studies are organised on the network principle. All students from all generations are part of the communication network and they are all obliged by network rules.

  6. Apart from regular schooling, there are two traditional occasions within the postgraduate studies when all the students come together:

  7. a) Christmas discussions about economics

  8. b) Dean’s lecture and New Year’s cocktail

  9. We also organise lectures of eminent experts from abroad.

  10. The Studies have clear theoretical foundations: liberal economics philosophy and open society.

  11. Official languages are English and Serbian.

  12. All MBA and PhD theses are published in the "Mega trends" library.

  13. A list of MBA thesis topics is part of preliminary conditions. Before enrolment, namely, every student has to chose a topic for his/her MBA thesis. Mentors from abroad are provided.

  14. Before regular schooling, we organise preparatory lectures. Their structure depends on candidates’ profiles and their previous knowledge. The emphasis is put on fundamental knowledge of economics, statistics, mathematics and computer science.

  15. We organise two seminars:

  16. a) Entrepreneurial way of thinking (discussion about works of Hajek, Popper, Buchanan, Friedman);

  17. b) Research seminar: all students present their research before an official public presentation.

  18. We try to provide financial support and scholarship for our students to enable them to attend specialisation and various courses abroad.

  19. We have defined the list of basic reference books and we distribute it to our students. In several courses we also use leading world books.

  20. At least two lecturers are involved in every subject - one of them comes from the country and the other one comes from abroad.

  21. Schooling involves a great number of businessmen and people with practical experience.

  22. We have a special policy that it is a good practice to prepare undergraduate students for postgraduate studies even from the first year of their undergraduate studies.

  23. The Studies are open for all participants with a BA degree who are ready to face the challenge.

  24. The Studies are self-financed. They are free of charge for everyone who can find a student from previous generation who is not satisfied with the studies.

Devotion to the Studies and communication network are crucial signs that make us different!
